Sunrise views and full moon rise over the lake. All rooms are situated to have sunrise view. Bed was comfortable, my room had a sitting area, fridge and microwave, 2 chairs on outside deck. Room was clean, shower water was hot. Stayed 2 nights, I would definitely come back. Great restaurant on site, I left a separate review for the restaurant.

Shangri-La Café

I’ve heard about the delicious pies, but I’ll get back to that.

We had family in town and needed to meet near Mt. Ida for lunch. In all my years around, Shangri-La has not made the cut. Well, it’s a destination spot on our list now. The menu is full of treats and quite affordable.

I called ahead to let them know that there would be 14 coming and the friendly voice assured me they would be ready. The dining room is comfy, but not too large. It has an old-time diner vibe with Lake Ouachita as a backdrop view. Our server was friendly and attentive; the drinks stayed full, and we had great service.

Thursday’s Lunch Special was chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, buttered carrots, spinach casserole, and cornbread for $9.50. It was tasty and I’m not sure what the spinach was seasoned with, but it was great. Others had the Club sandwich, cheeseburger, and an assortment of sides. The homemade onion rings were a hit too.

But you want to know about the pies, right? We had to choose from coconut, chocolate, lemon, banana, peanut butter, blueberry, and others. Homemade and not stingy! Flaky crust, well-balanced sweetness, and delicious. My daughter had the apple pecan crumble with ice cream, which should be illegal.

An item of note is that they will cook your catch for you. Bring the cleaned and fileted fish fresh from Lake Ouachita and make a meal for around $10.00.

Very nice view of the lake from the restaurant. We had a nice time here. They will cook your fish after you catch it in the lake. The bench by the front door is a conversation piece, made out of old skis, interesting looking. They have motel rooms and they have cabins to stay in; good lake views there, as well

We have traveled to Lake Ouachita for years now and always make plans to visit Shangri La Resort. Our favorite part is the cafe, where we make sure to order up the catfish, onion rings, and PIE! We have also stayed in the rooms and cabins at Shangri La and have had great experiences there, as well.
Mrs. Carr and the staff at Shangri La are the most wonderful people and work hard to provide a convenient, well-run resort and dock year to year. I highly recommend a visit for food and fun!

Spent the day on the lake and ended it at the Cafe. Lake Quachita is the largest and most beautiful lake I've ever seen with many islands and scenic wonders to explore. The Shangri-la Cafe has the best onion rings and coconut cream pie I've ever tasted! This is a must stop! The last pic is the view of the lake from inside the Cafe, which also has outdoor tables with umbrellas.

The drive to get into the national forest is very nice and beautiful. Definitely a place to get away from the city. Very peaceful calm and quiet. The rooms seemed to need to be cleaned a bit more and within the 1st 5 minutes we must have killed close to 20 flies. In fact we seemed to be constantly killing flies during the entirety of our trip. This location is close to multiple crystal mines. The cafe here is very affordable and the home-made pies are delicious. Staff is also very friendly. If you're looking to do any fishing or hiking there are plenty of choices to do so. Would happily stay here again.
