Today, my husband and I had an interaction at Westside Pharmacy that reminded me that absolutely amazing people still exist in the world.

Westside Pharmacy is not our usual pharmacy. We were prior customers of Smith Caldwell, and when they closed, they sent our prescriptions over to Walgreens (as they did with all their customers), which we were not thrilled about - the transition was a total mess, and it took a lot of time and frustration to finally get things ironed out. Partly because of the difficulties of that switch, partly out of laziness, and partly because the hours they’re open make it slightly less stressful to get our meds, we haven’t yet made the move to find another pharmacy.

This morning, we found ourselves in the situation where the medication we needed immediately (post surgical pain meds for our son) wasn’t available at Walgreens - in fact, it’s apparently hard to find, so our doctor had her nurse call around to try to find a pharmacy that had it on hand, and that pharmacy was Westside.

First, I have to say that the meds were called in as we were being discharged from the hospital. I in no way expected them to be ready before much later in the day, but less than half an hour, as we were driving back home after being discharged, we got a text letting us know that they were ready for pickup, which was amazing considering that we were beyond exhausted, and just wanted to get home and settled in without having to worry about getting out again to run to the pharmacy. I won’t go into great detail about WHAT they did for us (cliffs notes: it was a problem with our insurance), but to say that they went above and beyond what we could have ever expected of them is an understatement. My husband and I were both absolutely taken aback in the best way by the incredible kindness of the Pharmacist who, having zero idea if his actions would result in us making a switch to there permanently, still did everything he could for us, and ensured we got the meds we needed. He wasn’t guaranteed to gain anything from this transaction with us, and yet was completely selfless in his actions, and I’m still in absolute awe of it.

In a world where good customer service is something that seems to be on the brink of extinction, my experience today restored some of my faith in humanity.

Our 5 minute drive home consisted of us making the plans to switch our insurance provider ASAP so that we can become full time Westside customers.

Very slow. Friendly, but waited over an hour for two prescriptions to be filled. I suggest Walgreens. No longer than 20 mins.
