The Railroad Dock is the largest cruise ship dock in Skagway. NCL uses it, as do several other lines. The painting on the mountain side behind the dock is the Ship Signature Wall, where ship crews used to spray paint their cruise line logos, upon their first visit to Skagway. This practice was stopped some time ago.
The rock fall track to the left has been active recently with large loose boulders rolling down hill and landing on the dock. In 2023, a Princess cruise was actually damaged from falling debris. No one was hurt. The Mayor said that more rock falls are inevitable.
Several cruise lines that use that dock are moving their ships to other towns along the Inside Passage, as Skagway works on mitigating the danger.
This is the reason why no one leaves the ship from the land side, and are not allowed on the dock. Passengers who want to go into town, are tendered off the ship, using the ship's life boats, and can take a bus into town.
If you are planning an excursion in town, it is best to purchase tickets in advance.
We enjoyed Skagway, but the rock fall gave me some concern, as it was raining when we docked.

A great place to visit if you are looking to spend some time out in the small town of Skagway. Great food and scenery with nice locals and great stories. Overall this is a great place to visit. Went here on a Celebrity Cruises ship but it looks like many other cruise lines go here. So this is a great destination and I would recommend it for anyone that wants to explore Alaska.

They were so accommodating. My husband has mobility limitations. They had transport vans equipped with a lift for his scooter. They helped park and store the scooter during our train ride and returned upon completion. The views were spectacular, and the narration throughout was outstanding. Very much recommend this Alaskan excursion!

Awesome. Just breathtaking! Fun and funny dockworkers too! Everything is walkable except where you have to take a trolley by law

Look out for dangerous rock slides here. We were 30 seconds from being crushed on August 2, 2022. A geological engineer said it was a critical danger on July 25th, so it’s a known issue. I just read they are closing the dock for the rest of 2022.

Nice pier but was closed to foot traffic.

Probably because of maintenance @ the end of the cruising season.
