I have been here for a year now after leaving the transportation industry in 2004 after 15 years to work in fulfillment, materials, and procurement. Much has changed since then but the values of this company has not, the Van Handel family has shown me they have consistently met all the demands this industry has challenged them with in regards to new DOT regulations, technology that drives it, and equipment before it was mandated.
Currently this industry is in a recession but Midwest Carriers is still purchasing new high end tractors and trailers without taking away pay and benefits from drivers because they have been good stewards with finances over 30 years.
I am on the flat pay program and yes it works well to have a consistent paycheck with the opportunity to make more.
If you are a person who wants to contribute, work hard, work with others and treat others with respect and dignity as most of us want to be treated then Midwest Carriers is the company for you! If you’re not happy with typical daily frustrations all truck drivers deal with this may not be a good fit as we share some of the some of the same problems again this is trucking, in my opinion you can’t change that by turning another key. The difference here is you can make the call to the President or CEO and call it out for what it is, and expect a very rational response.
I can say a lot more...I have had some disappointments with people here from time to time, I have had times were I should have been called out for doing something foolish but our Saftey people decided to issue grace instead.
It’s not perfect “this is trucking were Murphy’s Law will prevail,” my goal is to look at each trip as another adventure and do my best. Overall I have it pretty darn good here.

Just posting a potential warning. Applied few weeks still have not heard back and called a couple times was told they would get back with me. If recruiting absolutely fails hiring and communicating I can only assume it's even worse throughout this company

I was out of the trucking industry for about seven years. I reached out to Midwest Carriers and was welcomed back with open arms! I worked with Ray when I was first hired to get me back up to speed with everything and all I can say is...what a Rockstar! Ray went out of his way to make sure I was successful. Let me also say this, Ray is one of the most genuine people I have ever met!

Now, I've been with Midwest Carriers for a little over a year now and I feel like I can give an honest take on the company. Simply put, we are all one big family and we all work together to accomplish the mission successfully. My DM, Beth, is my favorite. She works hard to understand each of her drivers and is also very personable. I know when I reach out to her that I can say what I need to say and that she will actually listen. That is hard to come by in this industry, so thank you.

Equipment is top notch. New trucks with inverters and refrigerators. That seems to be the standard. I run a microwave and a 32" TV in my truck as well. Most trucks have APU's.

Pay package is one of the best you will find. Weekly guarantee with excess milage bonus after 2400 miles. I normally average about 2800 to 3000 miles a week. This can very so don't hold me or MC to it. The trucking industry is finicky to say the least. But they will keep you moving.

Safety dep need to check more often if their senior drivers are ok to drive semi truck. Your company brown Volvo almost hit me to the side, driver cannot see line marking. Today at ohare area.

Applied there a few weeks ago told me there where going to call me in a day never heard from them again called them a couple times to get any updates no answer even the recruiter blocked my number cause it goes straight to voice mail very unprofessional company

I've got over 7 years of experience, and thankful I've found a home at Midwest! I feel like I hit the jackpot and that they will be my forever company. They are a decent sized company with still maintaining the family felt aspect. They will work with you as long as you are flexible with them in return, and the best part is they pay by the odometer, not zip code to zip code like a lot of other companies. They also will keep you moving as much as you like, I normally deliver early (by choice) and they are quick to keep me rolling, but it's not forced. They offer free chiropractic care and also have a good 401k program. I would definitely recommend to anyone out here on the road that is looking at being a family member, not a number.

V & S Midwest Carriers hauled a load for our company that because troublesome due to production issues with the customer. ALL of the V & S staff(especially Grant, Cory and driver Phil) were amazing to work with and remained pleasant and professional throughout the entire order. Job well done!!
