I live in Sheboygan and was purchasing a car from a Milwaukee dealer. While at the dealer I called KCU. The transaction was made so easily with the help and suggestions from Kalia Chang, lender. She even had it sent to the Mequon location to make things easier on us so we didn't have to come back and forth to Sheboygan and Milwaukee. The Mequon location was so efficient that the check was ready when I got there! The rates can't be beat. The extended warranty KCU offer is solid too. This is my 2nd loan with them and the 1st one was just as smooth as this one! (Side note the call center hold is far too long though. I finally found a phone # to an actual person that could help with out being in a call que on hold.)

Recently I needed a paper copy of a check I had written. I called Kohler and spoke with Shari who informed me that such not available since the recipient had converted the check to electronic transfer. However, she said she could provide documentation that the check had been cashed, which she did. I received the two page documentation via email within 30 minutes. It is hard to envision more responsive or more prompt customer service than provided by the employees at Kohler Credit Union.

I am extremely frustrated with KCU. I have had an account for over 30 years and recently a loan as well. In 2021, they started charging a fee from an account due to inactivity, yet I was paying on other accounts. When I went in to ask today, the manager simply messaged the teller (who was new and very kind!) that they can’t reverse fees that are charged. I was unable to get any explanation or talk to someone who could explain why. It was extremely frustrating, and I chose to close my account. I will not use KCU ever again.

Update: I did receive a call today from a lady regarding my frustration. I appreciated that. However, she stated that KCU gives people plenty of time (1-2 months) to address concerns with fees. So if you choose to bank with KCU, be sure to keep an eye on ALL accounts each month!

So Kohler Credit Union just went through significant security upgrades, which in theory should be a very good thing. However, after the upgrades were complete, both my wife and I, in our separate accounts noticed that there were separate phone numbers, and in my wife’s case somebody’s totally different email that were optional authentication numbers or email. In this case, the additional phone numbers and the additional email address had no affiliation with us. It is quite frankly a little scary that both of us had this issue and makes us wonder how many other people are dealing with this. Whether it is an inside job or what, that should not happen…. This is a significant security concern with financial accounts. I very possibly may pull our accounts as a result of this.

KCU was phenomenally easy to work with when I had to obtain a vehicle loan. The process was incredibly simple. The lending specialist I worked with was pleasant, fast and thorough. I have always heard good things, but can now say from personal experience that I would highly recommend KCU for any banking needs.

Always remember; banking employees have a lot going on and they aren’t just working with you, they have many other people for clients to get things done.
