**CAUTION TO FUTURE UHAUL RENTERS OR RETURNS! THIS COULD BE YOU!!**
UPDATE 7-23-24: It's wonderful UHAUL refunded the amount they wrongly charged. It's a shame it had to be refunded after the fact instead of just corrected while the contract was on hold.
Of course, your location has no control over the dispatch side of UHAUL transactions from other Dealers, but your AFM does have control over the receipt at your location. Since he seemed indifferent to correcting the $300 error, other customers may want to know what they may experience when renting/returning equipment at your dealership. That's a lot of money for some people to be just tied up in a transaction caused by negligence and indifference. Thank you for taking the time to help. That's all that was expected from the start.

ORIGINAL POST:
My son returned a TT to this location which he picked up in Opelika. He really needed your help, or at the very least, the help of Rob Davenport, your UHAUL AFM, who was totally dismissive. Not a big shocker, really, but I was hoping. I remembered Rob to be more than competent and was confident that he would be willing to listen and investigate this $352 issue, as I'm sure he would had it been one of his own children. Boy, was I wrong!
My husband and I managed the U-Haul Moving and Storage in Huntsville for 3.5yrs and I managed Safe Mini Storage in Hampton Cove for 5.5yrs, another UHaul dealer. We most certainly know UHaul's dispatch and return procedures.
Dealers are required to verify with their own eyes the mileage of trucks returned by self return after hours (because people often make mistakes when keying in mileage and the UHaul system is not sophisticated enough to catch keying errors differing from the picture taken of the odometer). Sometimes, even staff key it in wrong, like your representative did with my son's return (the picture he took does not match the mileage keyed in...). When dispatching a truck, a link is to be sent to ALL renters to verify mileage and gas prior to leaving the property. I'm assuming these procedures are still "the program" for UHaul nationwide, only, my son wasn't sent a link to verify these things and the odometer was apparently wrong by 352 miles -- or 372 thanks to YOUR location!! That's $372 that has been STOLEN by UHAUL. The lady at Sun Self Storage in Opelika says "they don't even take pictures of the odometer there". This seems like a colossal cluster on both ends of this transaction. If this is UHAUL customer service, imagine the service not being provided to your storage customers!
The truck our son was given should've been downed in Opelika. I hope your location downed it. It had a bald tire and no AC. AND, severely incorrectly documented mileage. The lady at your storefront was nice, but could not seem to do anything but apologize. Rob says he has no clue why his number was given because he can't do anything about it. We will be contacting UHAUL corporate.
