My partner dropped off my carbon fiber Giant Defy Advanced road bike as a surprise to have it tuned up. He paid a $500 deposit and clearly instructed the shop to keep all original parts intact and not touch the handlebar position.

About a week later, I received a call from one of the employees saying they needed an additional $338 to complete the work. During that call, he offered to use lower-cost parts “from the back” to save money—and I clearly said no, and repeated that if anything had to be replaced, it had to be original parts only.

Despite this, they did the exact opposite:

My Shimano Ultegra 6600 STI shifters were replaced with microSHIFT R9, a cheaper brand that doesn’t even feel right.

My chrome Ultegra derailleur was swapped for a plastic Shimano Sora.

My crankset and cassette were replaced too—now there are yellow plastic spacers between the gears, which were never on my original setup.

Even my handlebars were changed. When I came to pick up the bike, the employee admitted it: “I know you didn’t want your handlebars down like this, but I left them that way because that’s how they should be.”

I didn’t even feel safe riding it. I almost fell. The lever position and stiffness were all wrong, and the shifters weren’t the integrated style I had before.

Worse, none of my original parts were returned, even though I explicitly asked them not to remove them in the first place. And the receipt only shows $338.08, with no breakdown of labor time or an explanation for the missing $161.92 from the $500 deposit. Tax was only charged on the $338, not the full amount. The math is sketchy and raises major concerns about how deposits are handled.

And to top it off—I had to stay in a hotel an extra night to pick up the bike because the shop said they couldn’t locate it when I first called, even though it had already been there for over a month while I was out of the country.

This wasn’t some clunker bike. It’s a Giant Defy Advanced carbon fiber road bike, probably a 2017, originally silver carbon weave. It’s extremely light and worth over $1,000 in used condition. I painted it myself to prevent theft, not because it wasn’t valuable.

I feel completely taken advantage of. The shop didn’t listen, swapped my original parts for cheap ones, and delivered a bike that’s worse to ride than when I dropped it off. I would never trust this shop again, and I would strongly warn other cyclists to steer clear—especially if you care about your bike or expect your instructions to be respected.

Once again, the guys at Cycle Gear were both knowledgeable and helpful. They helped me select a holder for my cell phone to be mounted on my BMW R 1200 RT. They assembled the holder for me and went out to my bike with me to make sure the new holder fit and did everything. I wanted it to. Everything worked out perfect. I highly recommend this store for anything you need for your motorcycle.

This location was great. Manager and other team members were super courteous and helped me on my way. The tech who mounted my wheels did a fantastic job with no damage to my wheels. Saved my back a lot of pain not having to spoon on my new tires, will be back.

Great help! I actually ended up leaving my personal helmet behind and they put it aside until I made it back to get it ! In return I ended up buying a new helmet through them. The worker Tony I believe was his name actually took the time to show me different visors and help pick the perfect color for the helmet , then installed it for me to! Wasn’t super busy so I wasn’t standing around waiting to be helped either. I do with they had more steer bike shoes for smaller feet though . Outside of that it was perfect !
