I recently got my private pilot certificate, I’m at about 150 hours of flight time, and was looking for a place to rent out of. I initially scheduled a checkout flight in a Piper Archer in Watertown. I live in Oshkosh, so I had a longer drive to get there, only to find out they took the aircraft out for maintenance and didn’t reach out to contact me to let me know beforehand. I can understand stuff like that happens, so I decided to try for a second time in Juneau because the drive is shorter and they had an aircraft available.

I was originally told the instructor would help go through things slowly with me as this was my first time flying that specific airframe. During the checkout flight, the instructor spent a great deal of time on the ground talking about unrelated topics and ended up running me short on time, so I couldn’t complete the whole flight. During the flight portion, he was being rude and unhelpful in the way he was giving me instructions and told me to NOT use the checklist for the aircraft. It was insisted that I keep it below my iPad and don’t look at it. For someone who has never flown the aircraft, or any pilot let alone an instructor, it is very irresponsible and highly concerning that I was told not to use the checklist.

I went back a week later to try again to finish the checkout flight. I scheduled the appointment the day I had the first checkout flight (a week in advance), to be at 9 AM until 11 AM. I made plans for after the flight so I would have to leave at 11. I get to the airport to find that my instructor had moved the appointment to 10 and claimed to have texted me about it, but I didn’t receive it. I cancelled the lesson and left.

Maybe I had a fluke experience, but it was a messy and frustrating one. I would’ve given Wisconsin Aviation only one star if the desk receptionist at both Watertown and Juneau weren’t as polite, respectful, and helpful as they were for me.

My brother bought my 13 year old daughter and 12 year old nephew an introductory flight. Thought things went well until my daughter told me she was saying something and their instructor turned her mic off and "jOkInGlY" said, "there, i shut her up". What grown man thinks that's ok to "joke" about to children? Giving 2 stars instead of 1 because everyone else was nice.

Thank you to the team at Wisconsin Aviation for helping me out of a bind. The team went above and beyond to help me get a tire for my plane when I wasn’t even at their airport. Wisconsin Aviation knows how to treat people right!
